The Apple Pie Tree
The Kinders have been reading the book, The Apple Pie Tree, which explains how an apple grows through the four seasons and eventually is made into an apple pie! After discussing how we get the items we want and need from a store, and that we can purchase them, we decided to purchase the things we needed to make apple pie in Kindergarten! Of course, we also realized that the apples are a need (healthy food) but the sugar we added is definitely a want. Discuss other things in the students' lives that are wants and needs with your children and make them a part of your purchasing process. We enjoyed our delicious economics lesson!

Some notes about Clothes/Shoes-
- P.E. is one afternoon every week. Please make sure you have comfortable clothes appropriate for physical activities and always tennis shoes for P.E.
- We will have recess everyday and we will always move around our room. It is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes and clothes everyday. Sandals or flip-flops aren't always safe on the playground equipment or when running. Please make sure shoe laces are always tied with a double knot so they don't come untied throughout the day (and practice tying your laces at home, please!)
- Girls, if you wear a skirt, please make sure that you always have shorts underneath.
- We have plenty of opportunities to use the restroom, and can go as necessary, but occasionally in Kindergarten, bathroom accidents happen. Please always keep a gallon ziplock bag in each backpack with a change of clothes (shirt, shorts/pants, and underwear.) These can be old or "play" clothes and remain in the bag untouched for months. Hopefully we won't need to use them, but it is a good to have just incase.
- We will play, learn, explore, and eat everyday. We may paint, cut, draw, glue, and many other messy activities. Please keep this in mind when dressing your child for Kindergarten, because we are still learning and may have messes.
