Homework Practice- Coming to a home near you!
We are working really hard in class on learning out sight words as well as the sounds of all of the letters. We are beginning to send homework home so please make sure to check your child’s bag/folder for homework practice. Depending on your child’s needs, they will have additional letter practice, sight word practice, writing activities, and/or texts for reading. For now, all students should know/practice all of the letters including their lowercase letters and sounds. All students are also working on the following sight words:
and, the, I, a, see, like, we
Please also practice reading with your child. They should be pointing to each word as they read for a 1:1 correspondence with spoken and written words. If sentences have dots, make sure the child touches each dot as they read. Sentences that they can read can include:
I like the farm.
I see a cow.
We see the cat and dog.
Also, watch for practice pages and in class activities that come home graded. You can use these to review with your child and ask them what they did in the activity.

Letter Experts
In Kindergarten, we have lots of great students! Each one will be asked to be a “letter expert” over the next few months. When it is their turn, they will bring home a letter expert bag. Please return the bag the next day with at least 4-5 small items, pictures, cut outs, or clean recycled items that begin with that letter. For example, the letter expert for “A” might bring in a bag with a picture of an apple, an airhead candy, a small plastic animal, a picture of an alligator they cut out of a magazine or printed off of the internet, and a small toy airplane. See the pictures below for some examples of items that you could use. These are just examples, you do not have to send in boxes or plastic tubs. Send the items back to school in the letter baggie. Please do not send valuables or irreplaceable items. These will stay in the classroom for most of the year. Review the letter, the letter sound, and the items chosen for the bag with your child so they can be an expert and share their new knowledge with the class. Remember, not all students will get their letter soon. It will be an ongoing learning process that will take a while. Be on the lookout for the letter bag to come home for you to fill with those letter items! Thank you!
